snow day??

i'm writing this post from home, on a day when i normally should be at school. why? because for the second time since living here, every school in the entire city and surrounding area has been shut down. i'm not sure how they classify bad weather here in ontario - but i'm pretty sure (no actually, i know) this wouldn't even come close to qualifying for a snow day in saskatchewan. it's barely below zero, there's very little snow on the ground and it's not presently snowing. the snow that is on the ground is slushy. but apparently, there was a lot of freezing rain overnight, and there is supposed to be throughout the rest of the day. the streets will be slippery, but do we expect any different from a canadian winter? i'm not complaining though. it gives me a nice full day to get some stuff done.

school has been good so far. maybe a tad on the boring side - but i'm not really complaining. it should get better as we get more into things. we've actually had to be at school for very few hours since returning, so i've enjoyed having more time for myself. it's nice to have my time feel more balanced, even if it is only like that for a couple weeks. i've had time to read for pleasure, write in my journal, watch some episodes of 'gilmore girls', go out for walks, and enjoy lots of cups of tea. all without feeling a twinge of guilt for not doing homework. what a good feeling.

i played hockey in the 'corneal cup' last week. the corneal cup is the annual optometry hockey tournament. each of the four years puts together a team, and we all play against each other. it's not high quality, but i did have a lot of fun playing. it was kind of fun to see and hear the reactions from some of my classmates when they realized that i was a good hockey player. i got lots of compliments - and i have to say, it felt nice to be appreciated and complimented! i'm going to play on a campus rec team with some of my classmates this semester as well. it's in the beginner league, so maybe i'll be able to give them a bit of a boost!

not much else is new here. i'm simply just enjoying my day off. i hope that you're all enjoying your day as well.

Hi Jilly,
I assume that you were back to school today after your snow day yesterday. I've had a couple of "snow days" also as I have been home sick yesterday and today. I will see how my night goes and hope to get back to school tomorrow.
One month from today you are home again!
Love you lots,
mom xoxoxo
