For the past several years, I have sponsored Brivery through Zambia Mission Fund - Canada. In 2007, I was able to meet him while I was in Zambia. He seemed like such a sweet, smart, and nice boy during the brief time that I spent with him! Rich & Sue Krogsgaard got to know him very well during their months in Zambia - and they have nothing but amazing things to say about him! They were so impressed with his maturity and leadership, and have taken him under their wing as their Zambian "son"!
Brivery finished secondary school in December, and like all other students is now awaiting the results from his final year. Results often take a year, and this leaves them in limbo until they find out results, and can go to university or college. Right now, Sue is working hard to bring Brivery to Canada for a couple months while he waits for his results. A week or so ago we heard that he received his passport, and now we wait for him to receive his Visa. I am excited about this possibility for Brivery, and look forward to being able to get to know him better in Canada!
I was also assigned my new sponsor student this past week. His name is Cabinet. That's quite a name - I love Zambian names! He is a Grade 10 student at Kalomo High (the same school where Brivery went). He is from the Zyangale area, which is the area where we did our first VBS in 2003. I wonder if he was there?! His father died in 2000, and his school fees were being paid by a brother-in-law, although he has had to miss whole terms of school in the past due to lack of funds. I am glad that I can provide and help him go to school! I'm look forward to seeing his picture, and receiving a letter from him once Steve & Joan Mann return home from Zambia. I'm also looking forward to hopefully meeting him in the future!
