21/31 - Dad's Birthday!

So, today was my dad's birthday. We had a good day, complete with a couple hockey games, some yummy angel food cake, and a soccer game. It always feels good to just slide back into life in Regina so easily.

But on to my dad ... much could be said, but I really need to get to bed soon, so I'll try and keep it brief. Hands down though, definitely one of the coolest guys I know. He is the most friendly, caring, driven, organized person ever. I love how to him everyone is a friend - and he can talk easily with absolutely anyone. And I wish that I could get as much accomplished in a day as he does - seriously, where does he get his energy from!

He's always been there for me, from teaching me how to ride a bike, to coaching my hockey teams, to always being available now to help me out when I'm clueless on things like finances, or what to do when I have a flat tire! He's been there for the bigger stuff too though - always encouraging me to follow my dreams, and cheering me on through it all. One of the best things is how I always know that he is genuinely excited to see me and talk to me ... every time I call or come home now, I am always greeted by a huge 'Hi Jilly!".

He's been a great example in many things to me, but also to many other people. One of the things that I admire most about him (and my mom) is how they have made our house a place that is always open and welcoming to anyone. Our door was (and is) always open, and I know many people who considered our house to be somewhat of a second home to them, and my parents somewhat like second parents. I hope someday to make my home the same way. They truly care about other people, and it shows in the friendships that they maintain, and the way that they treat others. Like I said, every person is a friend to them! I've definitely learned from some of the best when it comes to hospitality, acceptance, and love and compassion towards others.

In short, my dad is one of the greatest men that I know. I'm thankful for all that he's taught me through the years, and for what he will continue to teach me through his example. Happy Birthday Dad!
