I've had a hard time feeling like it's really Christmas this year. For a variety of reasons. My head and heart have been in a bit of a funny place - and I've just had difficulty focusing myself on what the real meaning of the season is.

But, I have been spending a bit of time thinking on some of the words from one of my favourite Christmas carols - O Holy Night. I've sung them so many times, and I hadn't ever given them much thought before last year, when I finally started to listen to what I was actually singing. To me, they sum everything up perfectly.

Truly He taught us to love one another,
His law is love and His gospel is peace,
Chains shall He break, for the slave is our brother,
And in His name all oppression shall cease.

I pray that in 2010 I may continue to learn how to love from Him, and to follow His law and His gospel.
