it's been quite a week. busy, but so, so good. i feel like my focus has been brought back to where it should be - all thanks to three sweet little african faces.
for three nights, we had the blessing of playing host to three members of the african children's choir, and one adult chaperone. these three boys - joseph, daniel and jerome - as well as 'uncle david' - brought much laughter and joy into our home, and our lives, during the short time that we were with them. they were only with us for a couple days, but they feel like part of our family - my little african brothers.
it was soooo good for my heart to be with them. to see their sweet smiling faces and hear their contagious laughter. to be given drumming and dancing lessons (and believe me, these boys know how to do both!). to play football together. to be able to speak some swahili with joseph and david. being with them made my days brighter, and reminded me of the yearning deep within me to do what i can - whether that be through my career, or through simply loving on some kids - to share what i have been blessed with. if i can make life a little bit easier, or a little bit better for one child or adult, then i will be happy.
these three boys (along with every child in the choir) has a unique story. i don't know those stories. but i do know that they have been through more than i could ever imagine. all i wanted to do was put my arms around them, sheltering them from any kind of hurt or harm. to let them know that they are special and valuable and loved. and i know that while trying to do that, i came away from the brief encounter gaining more than i could give to them. they inspired me with their big dreams, contagious joy, unwavering hope and deep faith.
they'll probably never read this - but if they do, i want them - joseph, daniel and jerome - to know that i am so thankful for them. thank you for bringing smiles to my face, laughter to my mouth and joy to my heart. keep on singing and dancing for god. you are amazing!
and of course, a few pictures from our time together:
the choir is still on tour for 7 more months. if they come anywhere near you, go and see them! believe me, you won't be disappointed! for more information about the choir and their touring schedule, go here.
