Grandpa Slywka

just wanted to let you all know that last night, my grandpa passed away. he was getting to be quite sick and weak, so it isn't a big surprise - but it did take us by surprise, as we didn't know he wasn't doing well until late last night. the news of him was what i had to wake up to this morning. dad flew in from calgary early this morning, as he had just gone there yesterday for business. prayers are thursday night, and the funeral is on friday.

today, i've been flooded with good memories of times spent out in lipton with grandpa and grandma. so many good memories.

it's hard. dealing with death is never easy. being away for the last year has been hard, because i only got to see grandpa on my trips home, and each time, i could notice a significant decline since the last time that i had seen him. it's never easy to see those you love as they get older.

i think the hardest part will be seeing my grandma though. she suffers from alzheimers, and to watch her come to grips with the death of her beloved husband will be so hard. at times she'll remember, at other times she'll forget. and will have to be told all over again. i pray that god gives her peace and understanding in her heart.

prayers for my family would be appreciated, especially for my grandma, and my dad and his siblings.
